Happy Monday –
We are off the a great start this week with our learners engaged in reading, math, writing, art and science throughout the building. The weather looks promising for outdoor recesses and we are enjoying the brighter morning for those of us who arrive early! Please read below for the news at Adams.
Cell Phones at School
As cell phones are making their way into the hands or more and more elementary school aged children, concerns have been shared with me about their use here at Adams. Our current policy is simple and clear in stating that once a student is on school grounds, phones are to be turned off and in the student’s backpack. Please help us by communicating this with your phone-carrying kid as necessary.
Parent – Teacher Conferences are This Week
Conferences will be held on the evening of Wednesday, November 9th and ALL-DAY Thursday, November 10th.
Students will have school on Wednesday, as usual. There will be NO SCHOOL on Thursday, November 10th.
NO SCHOOL Friday, November 11 – Veterans Day
There will be NO SCHOOL on Wednesday, November 23rd
NO SCHOOL Thursday, November 24th and Friday the 25th for the Thanksgiving Holiday
Dogs on Campus
We’ve seen an increase in pets at dismissal and drop off. Recently, one dog lunged aggressively at a student who was walking to the bus. I assure you I’m a lover of pets, but they are not permitted on school grounds during the school day. This includes drop off and dismissal, as we have students on campus until after 6pm each evening.
There are a few exceptions to this rule, including bringing fully trained Service Dogs to school with proper advance notification.
The Administrative Rules outlining our policy can be found on the 4j website (http://www.4j.lane.edu/adminrules/supportservices/#tocEl-61).
Please feel free to contact me should you have clarifying questions.
Your help in following these rules is appreciated.

ADAMS PTA ANNUAL SILENT AUCTION HAS MOVED
Some of you may remember that the annual silent auction has traditionally taken place during our end of the year carnival. In an effort to provide you with an easier shopping experience we have decided to move the auction to the end of November. The auction will be live on the website, 32auctions from November 28th through December 1st. You’ll be able to bid on your favorite items in the comfort of your own home, from your smart phone, or basically anywhere you have internet access. You can also share the auction with family and friends so they can get in on the action too. For those of you that would like to see the auction items in person, we will have a large collection of the items on site during our Oakshire Inspires! fundraiser which takes place on November 30th at the Oakshire Public House. We’ve already collected some fantastic donations that would make for great holiday gifts. We have a MyKick Balance bike from Burley, a University of Oregon basketball signed by head coach Dana Altman, an overnight stay at Village Green Resort in Cottage Grove, Rounds of golf at a number of beautiful courses, restaurant gift certificates, an American Girl Doll, Tubing passes at HooDoo and so much more. Keep an eye on the Adams Community page for a full list of items.
Adams Book Exchange
The Adams book exchange is now up and running! There is a wooden bookcase in each wing that contains age appropriate books. There is no check out process or anything. Just pick out the books that you want to read, return them when you are done and that’s it. We are still in need of more books to fill our shelves so if you have any books lying around that your kids have finished with consider donating them to Adams Book Exchange. There are two purple buckets in the hallway by the office for donations. And thanks to all of the families that have donated. There are some great books on our shelves.
