Adams Update 2.24.19 – Winter Weather, Kindergarten and More

Good Evening Adams Families,

Mark your calendars:

2/26 Garden work party 3:00 – Adams school garden

2/27 Kindergarten orientation 6:00 p.m. – Adams library

3/14 Reading Olympics Opening Ceremonies

3/14 Family Movie Night

Winter weather is here.  Please stay informed.

The snow is beginning to fall all around Eugene and I am sure that many kids (and parents) are anxious about whether or not there will be school in the morning.

Please check the following sources for updates on delays, snow routes or closures.

Of course, we want all our kids and families to be safe in the event of inclement weather.  If getting to school is not possible due to road conditions, please call the office at 541-790-5000

Kindergarten orientation and registration is ON!

Adams is projected for 70 kindergarten students this fall.  We are hosting an orientation on Wednesday at 6:00 in the Adams library for parents to learn about the program, meet our team and pick up enrollment packets.  Childcare will be provided.  If you have questions, please call 541-790-5000.

Also, please help us spread the word in the Adams neighborhood.  We do sometimes take transfers into Adams but hold space for neighborhood students at this time.  The more we know about who is coming in the fall, the better we can prepare for the program.  If you know of a family with a kindergarten student headed our way, encourage them to come by or call for information.

Measles update – So far, so good.

What will happen if measles outbreak from Portland spreads to Lane County?

If an unimmunized student is exposed to measles, Lane County Public Health will exclude them from school or childcare to protect them and reduce exposure to others. (This includes students who have an exemption from immunizations on file.) The exclusion is usually days 7 through 21 after exposure, and this may be extended if there are further cases.

Lane County Public Health also will advise any unimmunized staff members to stay home if there is an exposure.

What does measles look like?

The symptoms of measles start with a fever, cough, runny nose, and red eyes, followed by a red rash that usually begins on the head or face and spreads to the rest of the body. People are most contagious with measles for four days before the rash appears and up to four days after the rash appears.
