Cell Phones at School

Sluggo Visits Adams!

The Eugene Emeralds are strongly committed to providing programs that support students in the Emerald Valley. Sluggo’s Home Run Reading Challenge, presented by Oregon Medical Group and Wildish was shared with Adams kids on Thursday of last week.

    •   Sluggo and Emerald staff visited Adams with an interactive assembly to build excitement for the program and reading.

    •   Parents and students set a goal for reading, whether that be reading 10 books, 10 chapters or having 10 books read to them for the younger students.

    •   Students track their reading on the provided Home Run Reading Challenge bookmark.

    •   Students return bookmarks to teachers by May 19.  Schools report back to the Emeralds how many students completed the program.

    •   The Emeralds provide a voucher good for TWO FREE TICKETS to one of the Emeralds’ pre-determined Reading Program Redemption games.

TIMING FOR THIS IS PERFECT!  It coincides with our upcoming Reading Olympics!

School Calendars Set for 2018-2019

All schools will now follow district calendar
Elementary School Calendar
Middle & High School Calendar

The school board has approved the 2018–19 school year calendars, which determine which days students will be in school. Daily and weekly school bell schedules are still under discussion.

Key dates: The first day of school will be Wednesday, September 5 for most students. Students in grades 7 and 8 will start on Thursday, September 6.

Winter break for students will be Dec. 22–Jan. 7 (Jan. 7 is a staff work day). Spring break will be March 23–31.

The last day of school will be Thursday, June 13, unless hazardous weather make-up days are needed.

What’s new, what’s not: The 2018–19 calendar follows the typical schedule for the first day of school, winter break and spring break. Other dates for grading, planning and professional development have been better aligned between elementary and secondary schools, so most no-school days will be the same for students at different levels. No-school days have been specified for parent conferences, where previously these days were different for each school.

The most significant difference is that all schools will now follow the district calendar and will not have additional school-specific no-school days and half-days throughout the year.

School Schedule Public Input Session

The district will hold a community forum on Wednesday, April 18, 5:30–6:30 p.m., before the regular board meeting. This is an opportunity to talk with school board members and district leaders about school schedules, ask questions and provide input. UPCYCLING for Adventure!  Rummage Sale to Support Outdoor School – April 21

Please save items to donate. Donations accepted April 20.

5th grade parents are sponsoring the spring Rummage Sale on April 21 in honor of Earth Day, to support of Adams 5th grade outdoor School.  This fun event aligns with our green school mission and the upcoming Next Step electronics round-up.    If you are doing some spring cleaning over the break, please hold on to quality items that could be donated to support this cause.  Donation drop off will be April 20 and the sale on April 21

Also, NEXTSTEP recycling will have a donation bin to keep e-waste out of our landfills. Those items need can be accepted, working or not.  If it runs (or ran) on a cord or batteries, it will be rebuilt, sold or recycled rather than end up in the trash.  GO GREEN!

We Want Your Gently Used Shoes
We have several students in need of replacement shoes this time of year.  Please consider donating any used shoes you have that are in decent condition and we will find a pair of feet to fill them.  Drop them in the office and we will take it from there.
